1962–64
Under graduate work at USC (the most exciting educational experience I have had)

1964–67
Mormon missionary in France ( I love the language and the culture)

1968
I graduate from Berkeley. My freshman year in medical school at UCSF

1968
Barrie marries Janet Lopossa of Long Beach, CA

1969
I become a Scoutmaster - I will be involved with boys for the next forty-five years

1970
My dad and I purchase a 600 acre ranch in John Day, OR

1970
First baby girl (Suzette) born in San Francisco

1971
I join the Army. This is my protest against the Vietnam War protests in San Francisco

1972–73
Surgical Residency in the Army at Ft. Lewis, WA

1974–77
Family Practice at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO

1975
Operation New Life - evacuate the Vietnamese from Saigon

1976
Passed my Family Practice Boards

1977
Leave the Army as a Major

1977–08
Move to a 50 acre farm in Emmett, ID. Solo Family Practice doctor until 2005

1979
I begin teaching in the Family Practice Residency Program in Boise, ID

1981–86
Owner of sawmill in Emmett

1982
Build the SMITH CLINIC. By 2005 it grew to include a dentist, orthodontist, 3 Family Practice physicians, and a PA

1983
The youngest of seven daughters born in my clinic

1990
My wife and I return to France for the first time since my mission

1992–07
Trips to France, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Belize, Inca trail Peru, El Mirador Guatamala, England, Quebec Canada, New Zealand, Hawaii (we love to travel)

1997–08
I rejoin the Army as a reservist and become a Colonel

2002
Humanitarian mission to Suriname

2003
First deployment for Iraqi Freedom

2005
Second deployment for Iraqi Freedom

1997–08
Part time physician at the Boise VA Hospital

2003-2008
Medical Director of Gem County Emergency Medical Services

2004
Walt Unger calls me and we reconnect after 42 years

2005
I retire from my practice at the SMITH CLINIC

2008
Mini reunion with several special people from my high school days
